It's actually a mixture known as MUKHWAS (which literally translates into breath freshner) & it aids in digestion as well!.

Mukhwas is a colorful Indian after-meal snack or digestive aid made primarily of fennel seeds, anise seeds, coconut, and sesame seeds!. They are sweet in flavor and highly aromatic due to added sugar and the addition of various essential oils, including peppermint oil!. The seeds are often also coated in sugar and brightly colored!. Plain water drunk after chewing and consuming mukhwas tastes extremely sweet!. There are lots of varieties of mukhwas!.

Occasionally, this is eaten for medicinal purposes!.

Called "sauf" in India!. It is fennel seeds!. It looks very similar to caraway but tastes different!. Some fennel seeds can be coated with colored sugar with red, green, yellow, etc!. Different Indian traditions use a different mix of fennel seeds along with other seeds in their "after dinner/dessert/tea breath freshener"!.

Hope you had a good time in the Indian restaurant!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

It's a mixture of fennel and other seeds!. It can also include shredded betel nut, it helps you digest (betel is a stimulant)!. Quite often it is wrapped in a leaf, and the wad chewed, this lets the saliva release the chemicals from the seeds and nut as they get stuck in your teeth!.

It's an acquired taste! Www@FoodAQ@Com
