Here in the states we eat white beans,pinto,beans,& all kinds of peas!.Usually we soak the beans ,after washing them,in water for a few hours!.Then we slowly cook them with a ham hock for seasoning!.This is usually served with potatoes,a fresh vvegetableonion ,pepper relish,etc) & tea!.Its really healthy & very tasteyWww@FoodAQ@Com

l live in Greece, and we eat many kinds of beans here! They have the biggest lima beans I've ever seen!!! They soak mostly all the different varieties of beans before cooking them, but they don't often include meat, but they do use plenty of Greek olive oil!. The Giant Beans I referred to are usually baked in the oven with tomato sauce, and they are soooo very tasty with a thick crust of bread, some piquant feta cheese and all washed down with a glass of Retsina (white wine flavoured with pine resin) or whatever wine you prefer;
we also eat a lot of lentils (which do not need to be soaked) and chickpeas in soups!. once again, not much meat is used!.

In the UK, the only beans that most people eat are Heinz baked beans and green beans!.

Other beans we do use (well people who cook anyway) - canneloni, borlotti, broad and butter beans!. You might get pinto beans in a tex-mex restaurant, or kidney beans if someone makes a chile con carne!.

It's odd, you'd think that in a mild/cold climate like the UK people would eat more beans than they do, because they are good forms or warming carbohydrate!. But I gues that not many beans grow well here, unlike say Italy or France!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
