Why do Puerto Ricans call tamales pasteles instead of tamales?!
Tamales can be traced back to 5000 bc and eaten by the Aztecs and was named Tamalii by Aztecs in the Nahuatl language!. The is native to Mexico, so why would the name change in Puerto Rico!. By the way, the original tamale is in a corn husk!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

First of all, it's not tamaliii but tamal-li, the one "latin translation" the lady says is completely false, we Mexicans say that only as a joke!.

Spaniards changed many nahuatl words simply because they couldn't pronounce it!. That is why you guys have spanish/english words such as tamal (from tamal-li), chocolate (chocolatlh), coyote (coyotlh), avocato (from spanish "aguacate", this one from the nahuatl "ahuacatlh") or even Montezuma (Motecuzoma)!.
