Does anyone know what the greenish sauce served with samosa in Indian restaurants is called?!


Question: Does anyone know what the greenish sauce served with samosa in Indian restaurants is called!?
it is very tasty, but the flavors are very hard to place at the same time!. could be mint, cilantro!?!? i want to make homemade samosa myself with this sauce on the side mmmmm!.!.!.

It is called the mint chutney!. They use the same chutney in Pani puri (a famous Indian Chat recipe)!. If you want to know t he recipe of mint chutney!.!.!.here it is

Ingredients:
1 cup of mint leaves washed
1/4 cup of onions
3 flakes of garlic
1-2 Red chilli whole
1tsp cumin seeds
1tsp mustard seeds
A pinch of Hing
1tsp urad dal
1tsp channa dal
Salt to taste
1tsp of oil

Method:

In a Pan, add oil and then cumin seeds!. After few seconds!. Add onion and saute them!.
Add red chillies,garlic and fry then for 1 minute!. Now add the mint leaves and fry them!.
Let it cool!. Add to the blender this mixture, salt and blend it by adding little water!.
In a pan, add oil and mustard seeds!. When the seeds pops, add hing powder , urad dal,channa dal and fry for few seconds!.
Add this to the blended mixture and serve hot!.

Note: alter the spice level according to your taste!.

The green sauce served with samosa is called Hari chutney(Pudina Chutney if mint is used along with cilantro ,Dhaniya chutney if only cilantro is used)
It's two parts cilantro and one part mint along with onion (half of the onion available here in USA) with green pepper according to taste,One garlic clove,salt to taste!.For sourness you can add either lemon juice or tamarind paste!.
You can even buy ready made chutney from any Indian/Asian store!.

It's Coriander Chutney!. Sometimes it is made with a combination of mint and cilantro!. It isn't all that easy to make at home, I've found, as it is hard to get it perfectly smooth, even in the blender or food processor!. You can buy it at Indian food stores or in the foreign section of some big supermarkets!. Www@FoodAQ@Com
