Question: What are some italian gangster/mafia type vegetables that they would have eaten ,eg broccoli, etc!?
Answers:
My grandparents came from Italy and here are some vegetables they prepared for their family!. I'm sure the gangsters or mobsters loved them too!

Artichokes
Fennel
Peppers different colors red and a variety of green ones some are fried and eaten with meats etc and some are pickled in oil and vinegar!.
Tomatoes of course!
Purple Eggplant
Zucchini squash
Spinach eaten alone or used in pasta dough or as a layer in lasagna
Mushrooms
Romaine lettuce for salads plus the red and white Radicchio used in salads too!. Dandelion greens braised and used like spinach!.

Hope this helps
