Question: What's the difference between Sushi and Sashimi!?
Ok, lately my aunt and I have been wondering it!. We went to two restaurants and asked both people, and both did not explain very well!. So if you could explain to me that would me great!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Sashimi - sushi = 2 letters!

But, the biggest difference between both:
Sashimi is either sliced raw fish of any specie, sliced mago octopus or squid, fish roe, or the innards of a sea urchin (the best), served with dipping sauces namely, wasabi, soy sauce, ponsu - soy sauce & lime, tongkatsu, hiryu, soryu, akagi and yamato!.
Sushi is boiled gluttenous rice, mixed with a small amount of vinegar, rolled or pressed in a nori (seaweed) sheet!. In the sushi roll you can have anything, smoked eel, fish roe, pickled vegetables, avocado, and all the stuff in the preparers hand!. The roll is held in place by moistening the nori edge with water!. I heard of some sushi chefs licking the roll like doing a cigarrette roll!.
Both are served with dipping sauces, wasabi, hiryu, soryu, akagi, and pickled raddish!.

This helped you, I hope!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

PC has it right, sashimi is just the raw fish, it is cut into bite sized pieces, and served!. Sushi is a variety if different things with rice, rolled into balls, or a Nori seaweed wrap!. It may have raw fish in it, or it may have veggies, cooked fish, roe, or cooked shellfish!.
Both are usually served with soy sauce and wasabi!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Sashimi is sliced raw fish!. Sushi has the sliced raw fish over a small piece of seasoned rice!. Sushi also can be covered with shrimp, eel, and also made into hand rolls with spicy tuna!. (cone shaped) Other traditional rolls are made with seaweed sheets, layered with seasoned rice, vegetables, rolled up and sliced!. made into round rolls, !. The Americanized version of sushi is "California Rolls", which are seaweed, rice, crab, avocado, and whatever else they want to add!.

Either way, it tastes best dipped in soy sauce mixed with wasabi (green horseradish)!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Most of the answers people gave are basically right!. However, Sashimi is a slice of raw seafood laying on top of a small ball (though it is more oval) of sticky rice!. California rolls are what people typically think of as sushi!. They are the ones that are circular with the fish and other ingredients in the center surrounded by rice and then nori wrap (or seaweed)!. Sushi encompasses all types of Japanese raw fish and rice dishes (including sashimi)!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Here's the easy answer!. Sushi is the technique of putting stuff in a rice roll (could be anything from carrots to cucumber to sea urchin to whatever!.!.!.!.)!. It's the method, not the ingredients!.

Sashimi is raw fish, typically sushi-grade tuna!. Usually, it is dipped in a sauce made with soy and wasabi paste!.
