You could start with an appetizer of sushi, sashimi (raw fish w/ soy sauce and wasabi), or yakitori (grilled marinated chicken on a stick)!.

For the main course I love Beef Dunbri, which is basically just a sweet sauteed beef and onion on steamed rice!. If you have a little hibachi grill, just slice up some cuts of meat into thin slices (beef, pork, and chicken) along with various vegetables!. Then go to an asian supermarket and pick up some yakiniku sauce!. The meat, with grilled meat and vegetables in the yakiniku sauce is delicious!. Be sure to pick up some Sapporo for the beer drinkers and a bottle of sake for an enjoyable night!.

And you could finish off the meal with a little mochi (can find it at any asian supermarket!.)Www@FoodAQ@Com

Start off with appetizers of steamed potstickers (ready made) with a soy ginger dipping sauce, and Edamame Soy beans!.!.and some jumbo bottles of Cold Kirin beer;

Tonkatsu Meal, which is fried pork cutlet, coat with panko crumbs, serve over a bed of shredded cabbage (could use beef or chicken, but pork is traditional)!. Bottled "Bulldog sauce" is good, but not required!. Lemon slices are O!.K!. A side of plain white rice!. More Beer (Sapporo)

Side dish of Yakisoba stir fried noodles, a little salad with store-bought 'asian' dressing!.

Dessert: sliced seasonal fruit

Alternatively: Shabu Shabu!. If you have a portable electric burner ($8 at Walmart), place a large pot with boiling seasoned broth!. I use weak chicken stock with a little ginger and a few drops of soy sauce!. Slice onions, cabbage, spinach, Tofu, and nice beef (chill in freezer for 1/2 hour and slice/shave very thinly)!. Arrange in plates for guest to individually dip into simmering broth to cook quickly, then they can retrieve with chopsticks/forks and dip into special sauces (Soy ginger, sesame vinegar, etc)!. Serve with rice and Beer!.!.!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

Hi there,

Luckily, not all Japanese recipes need to include raw fish - lots of noodles, vegetables and cooked meats are used across a range of great cuisines - so you have plenty to choose from!

For example, you could begin with some skewered monkfish with a soy sauce and sake mixture called 'yakitori' sauce, a sweet-tasting chicken katsu curry for mains and finish off with some Japanese nightingale cakes made from flour, water, sugar and red bean paste!.

All of these recipes can be found on the Japanese recipes page of the International Cuisine site of UKTV Food - http://uktv!.co!.uk/food/homepage/sid/451
