I am a former chef and worked in Japan in a Canadian based hotel chain back in the 1980's and you right it is known a Sunomono, and is a bonito broth made with a shaved fish that is dried and used to make the basic dashi broth used in many Japanese dishes, they will add green onions, soya sauce and even some other veg garnish, it is a before dinner refresher, it is used in making Miso soup to!.

As for calories it is very low, it is just water and flavours, so under 100 calories, might be a bit high in sodium, so watch the salt or use low sodium soya sauce!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It's just broth!. Even if it has miso (a bean paste used in miso soup), it will still have VERY few calories!. Almost none!. Eat up!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

If it's a chain restaurant then it should say the amount of calories on the menu in small letters!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
