Question: Do people really eat "chitlins!?"!?
I book I'm reading is set in southern USA, they describe eating chitlins!.!.!.!.do you guys really eat those!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
They are actually called chitterlings!. Yes people eat them, people eat everything!. They are more popular in the southern US!. They are not always fried, many people also eat them boiled and cut into bite sized pieces!. They have a flavor similar to a fatty piece of pork and are supposed to be VERY well cleaned before use because of the things that can be found inside!. They do have a strong scent; unpleasant to some, but they don't/shouldn't smell of feces!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

They're eaten not just in the southern U!.S!. Here's a few other countries: Argentina, Uruguay, Mexico, The Philippines, China, Korea & France!. Until emancipation, African-American food choices were restricted by the dictates of their owners!. Because of the West African tradition of cooking all edible parts of plants and animals, these foods helped the slaves survive in the United States!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

eat them and love them!. My grandmother, who just turned 86, thinks enough of me to have made them for birthday and Christmas all my life!. I'll stop eating thme when she is no longer able to prepare them!.!.!.but once in a while it is good to remember just what our ancestors had to do to keep us alive!.
