What is a typical American food? ?!
I am Jamaican, What would you answer if somebody asks you what is a typical American food!? Www@FoodAQ@Com
Answers:
To be honest!.!.!. I don't think there is much in the category of "American Food"!.
BBQ and Corn are the only things I can think of!.!.!. Native Americans!. Oh!.!.!. And potatoes because potatoes and corn are Native to the Americas and BBQ was a style developed by Native Americans in the Midwest and South
I live in Chicago, IL and we are such a melting pot that things that I see as "Normal" would make other people in the US nauseas!.!.!. Like "Headcheese" from the German Place on the Near-West-Side or when my father gets liver at the Polish place near where he grew up!.!.!.
We live near Greek Town and though we get "Greek Salads" or Gyros!.!.!. We are just as likely to pick up/make Chinese, Japanese, Polish, Swedish, Mexican, Puerto Rican, Italian, Indian, Ethiopian!. Middle Eastern!.!.!. Whatever!.!.!.
Because we live HERE, we never go to "Chain" fast food places like McDonalds or Burger King!.!.!.
When we say "Lets Get Chinese Food" we don't think of China!.!.!. We just see it as a style, not as being 'exotic' so it has become part of our "American Experience"!.
I cook German and Chinese and Jordanian as well as I cook hamburgers and fries!.!.!. (Which I have been told is damn good! LOL)
Most Americans cook with foods and styles from around the globe but we don't realize it because it has just become such a common thing!.!.!.
Like, if you had never been out of your town in India, you wouldn't be able to look at foods and styles from around the world and just shrug and add it to your rotation!.!.!. But here in the US, no matter where you are, you can get, literally, anything on earth and things that just 30 years ago was "Exotic" is now so common place that I'm sure most people wouldn't be able to tell you of it's origins!.
The things that people here are listing!.!.!.
Pizza!.
Hotdogs!.
French Fries!.
Fried Chicken!.
They are ALL from other countries!.!.!.
Pizza = Italy
Hotdogs = Germany
French Fries Belgium
Fried Chicken = World Wide
In the span of human history!.!.!. There are 2 things that have been proven:
1!. Our Wander Lust
2!. Our Love of Food
We have eaten and screwed our way from one end of the globe to the other and, especially now with our global community, we are meshing so well that a lot of places have adopted EVERYTHING and never looked back, and the US is one of those places!Www@FoodAQ@Com
