Answers:
I am italian and i think it also has to do with the family element, it brings the whole family together and everyone shares a similiar love of the food!. People are most personal when they are sharing a mealwith one another!. I remember many holidays centered around lots and lots of food!. lol Www@FoodAQ@Com

Because we lika to Manga!!

But really, food is important to all countries( except us here in the USA)!. We love or junk food( which really isn't real food)!.
But when you say Italy or France, food is always the first thing that comes to mind!.
I think it's just because they are the favorite cuisines of most people and nothing to do with the importance of Italy's way of thinking about food then any other countries perception of food!.
All the European, Asian etc etc countries think the same way about their food as the Italians,French( and whoever) think about theirs!.

But "Traditional foods" is a little trickier then the importance of just their food!.

Some traditional foods!.
Lentils and Coteghini on New Years day for good luck!.
Confetti for weddings!.
Panettone for X-mas
Colombo Cake for Easter!.
Pasta con Sarde( Sicily) for good luck on St!.Josephs day!.
Pizza Rustica( Easter and Christmas)

To many to list!.
Well, they exist is other countries also( different foods) but again, it's just that Italian food is the most popular and more food products are imported from Italy then any other country!.also Italians have many more traditions( just an excuse to get grandma to cook more things!.
( and she always falls for it:-) )

It's really not unique to Italy! Food is important in any culture!. Part of that is because food is historically tied to most people's professions!. For a great portion of human history, in any given country most people were farmers!. They were totally preoccupied with growing or raising some food!. Food also becomes tied to religion and holidays/rituals!. There are special foods for Christmas and Easter, there are things you can't eat at certain times, or ever!. I mean, imagine, you're a farmer, everyone you know is a farmer !.!.!.!. what is there to talk about!? Probably just, "This is how I grow my food !.!.!." "No, food is better this way !.!.!." etc!. Even though today most people in Italy (and many other countries) aren't farmers, this kind of thing sticks around!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Italians are sensualists and food is an important source of satisfaction to them!. As it should be to all of us!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
