Sushi !?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Question: Sushi !!?!!?!!?!!?!!?!!?!!?!!?!!?
up until recently i disliked sushi due to popular belief of it being raw fish
i hate fish!.
yet alone raw fish, but my bro took me out to a sushi restaurant, and it
was fresh and awsome
i loved it
i have looked it up and become obsessed and i want to make it at home (drive to restuarant is hell) and i know HOW to make specific ones like shrimp and cali rolls however i have seen people contriversing on what sushi really is and now i am curious!.

my question is:
what is sushi
what is maki
what is that sea weed, some people say there are 2 or 3!?
whats shashimi
what is wasabi, how do i create it ( i hear its expensive and restaurants create false ones as subsititute)
and what are the differances between all the sushi's for instance they came with some rolled as rice on the outside, some had it inside with the seaweed outside, some came with JUST rice and on top was shrimp or fish (for my bro) and some came like that but a seaweed wrapped around it to i guess "hold" it together

basically i want to know everything
sources help alot i pref you answer rather than a link where i gota look for hours to find 1/10 bloody answers
thank youWww@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Sushi is a ball of rice that's shaped into bite-size pieces, usually served with fish or vegetables (either placed on top or rolled)!.Vinegar and sugar is added to the rice to give it flavor as well to make it easier to mold without getting all sticky!.

Maki is roll sushi!. It can be rolled with seaweed on the outside or seaweed-inside-rice-outside (ie!. california roll)!.

Seaweed is basically sea algae!. The seaweed they use in sushi are dried/toasted seaweed, nori!. Seaweed is also used in soup (ie!. they might serve seaweed and tofu in miso soup)!.

Sashimi is just fresh raw fish!. Fish used for sashimi is specially treated to be eaten raw, it's not the same as eating that raw salmon fillet you get at supermarket!. There are some Japanese-markets that sell sashimi, which you can buy to make your own sushi!.

Wasabi is a root vegetable!. It's horseradish!. It's expensive and difficult to find real wasabi, and if you have real wasabi, you'll need to grate it and it won't be bright green as the ones you see in restaurants!. You can find wasabi paste or powder in most asian supermarkets!. They are simply wasabi mustard with green dye!.

There are different types of sushi, maki is one of them!. Temaki is hand-cone (shaped like an ice-cream cone, filled with sushi rice and fish/veggies)!. The one with the fish on top is called nigri sushi!. There's also inari-sushi, which is just rice in a fried tofu pouch!. There's chirashizushi - a bowl of sushi rice with fresh fish piled on top!.

I know the feeling!. I didn't think I'd like it either then I tried it and that same day, I went to the library and took out a whole lot of books on sushi making!. I taught myself from all the info in the books, it was pretty easy!. Next thing you know, I catered a boat cruise for 75 people and made sushi platters!
there's too much info to answer it all here though, so get yourself to the library, photocopy the pages you want or use google!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Vanessa has the answer!. One such book, and the first one you should get a copy of is SUSHI MADE EASY!. by Kumfoo Wong!. It has step by step instructions, with illustrations and color pictures!. Only 74 pages including the glossary, but covers every question you asked, in detail!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
