Question: When making Sushi rolls, how can you roll it without the rolling mat!?
I have everything, BUT the rolling mat, and none of the stores around here sell it!. Can you even make the Sushi rolls without the rolling mat and if so, what techniques can I use!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
uhm!. I use my hands!.

just lay it out on a piece of saran wrap on the counter, spread your rice on 3/4s of it, (leave a little piece without stuff) and put the filling about two inches in, then roll it up on the saran!. Then wrap it with the saran so it'll stay fresh while you do the others!. You might want to squish in the sides with your fingers to get it tamped down (think of it as a hand rolled cigarette)

I don't know anyone with a "sushi mat" I think they sell them to people who want to make genuine Japanese sushi, but aren't Japanese!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

you can use a folder holder cut it in half to make it easier, or wet a tea towel place it flat on the counter or table , or use a clean plastic milk bag that you cut to open and make a long piece !.Best to buy yourself a Bamboo mat if you make Sushi a lot !.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Try a magazine but make sure you don't want to keep it after!. My friend owns a sushi restaurant and he said that is what he used when invited to a friend's place for dinner one time!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You can use any flexible mat to roll them!. Try a plastic placemat!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
