Do Turkish grilled dishes (like kebabs) contain the spice cumin? ?!
Answers:
well, i've made a Turkish kebab from the chef, Rick Stein's new Coast to Coast cookery book - this was w/o cumin
the recipe is as follows
minced lamb
grated onion
parsley
salt and pepper
mix all together, put onto skewers and bbq/ or grill
served with a carrot and kolhrabi salad (toasted cumin in a lil' oil thrown in)!.
salad
feta (optional)
red onion

Some Turkish dishes do have cumin in them, but my experience is that they don't!. If I put cumin in food, my Turkish friends assume I have cooked an Indian dish!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
A lot of places use it!. You can identify it by it's earthy taste!. I would use it as it has a nice warmth to it!. Not too much though as the flavour is very strong!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
I never had that in Chicago with cumin, but it depends on the place, I guessWww@FoodAQ@Com
If you buy them from the dodgey places in your town then probably yeah!Www@FoodAQ@Com
