oh my god!!! i cant believe u people don't know what a jicama is (i don't mean to be rude, its just funny for me), well the only way i like them and that i know how to make them is just peel them like a potato except the skin is more rough well the cut it in cubes put lime and chile powder on it, u can find chili powder in any store especially in a mexican store, another way is u can chop the jicama the same way and make it into a fruit salad with cubed orange and sliced cucumbers, that will taste delicious and just add the lime and chile powder and it will be fabulous trust me
hope i helped :)Www@FoodAQ@Com

Here is a wonderful preparation for jicama!

Peel the jicama and chop it!. Grind in a food processor with pine nuts until it is the consistency of rice!. This is a great way to make a very healthful sushi: roll in seaweed sheets with cucumber, carrots, sprouts, etc!.

This goes great with a sauce made with tamarind paste, soy sauce and honey!.

Your jicama preparation is also fine alone as a side dish!. Enjoy!

Ahhh jicama (although pronounced ickama)!. It should have the texture of a raw potato, but with a slightly sweet taste!. When I eat them I usually just peal it and slice it up and eat it raw or with just a little bit of salt on it!. You could also grate it up into thin slices and put it on a salad!.
I'm not sure how you would cook it, but I suppose you could make it into french fry like cuts and bake it, but I like it just raw myself!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Here's a Geocities page devoted to Jicamas!. You can pick whichever one looks most appealing to you!. http://www!.geocities!.com/NapaValley/2267!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

slice it and eat it raw, or slice and dice and put in a salad!. this veggie is used a lot in mexico and southern states!. experiment with it, it wont kill you!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Oh, I love jicama because of its crunchiness and exquisite texture!. I usually just shred them and stir-fry them with different vegetables!. Then I use those spring roll skin and wrap them!. Delicious!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Jicama can be eaten raw or cooked!. And you are right, just peel it like a potato!. I love eating raw jicama, I crunch it like I would an apple!. The taste is sweet, a little earthy, but it is very crunchy, firm but juicy!. If your jicama is big, it will be easier to eat if you slice it first!. Cut like carrots, you can add this to your fresh green salads for that extra crunch!. If you like fresh spring rolls, you can add this to your filling in place or in addition to kohlrabi!.
Sometimes jicama is called chop suey potato because of the close resemblance on the outside, although it has no relation to the potato (Solanaceae) at all, nor sweet potato (Convolvulaceae - morning glory family)!. Jicama is in the Fabaceae (Leguminosae) family and is related to peas and beans!. It is cultivated for its edible swollen root (the one you have), but the young pods can be eaten too as a vegetable!. I encourage you to eat it as soon as possible because it will start getting blemishes and mold in a couple of days!. I would say that the best way to use yours is to eat it fresh!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Jicama, a member of the Morning Glory family, is most often used raw, in salads, but can be cooked like potatoes, though sticky from the sugar!. It is often used in recipes as a replacement for water chestnuts, where the vegetable is barely cooked and provides crunch and a sweet flavor

Try snow peas, green onions, and jicama stir fry, with a garlic and ginger oil!.

Peel and cut jicama into 1" cubes, and marinate in 2 tbsp soy sauce, 2 tbsp corn starch, and 2 tbsp Shaosing wine, or extra dry Sherry for 30 minutes Chop green onion into 1" lengths, and set aside!. String snow peas, and pinch off ends!.

heat 2 tbsp olive oil in a wok or deep frying pan, brown two crushed cloves of garlic, and two 25-50 cent size slices of fresh ginger, until almost smoking!. Remove ginger and garlic, and toss in snow peas!. Stir fry for 2 - 3 minutes, until very steamy!. Toss in jicama and marinade, and stir fry about 1 minute!. Add one tsp!. sesame oil, and stir once, then add 1/2 cup water or chicken broth!. Stir till liquid is bubbling, and serve!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
