Is Indian food popular in the UK?!
I work at a hotel in Boston!. The few English tourists who come here generally ask us directions to Indian restaurants!. I was wondering if Indian cuisine is popular in England!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Yes, very!. It dates back to the British Empire!. In Victorian times, the country went absolutely crazy for anything and everything Indian, especially food!. Returning soldiers also brought their taste for it back home, so it wasn't just an upper class thing!.

Yes, indeed Indian and Chinese food regularly swap the closely contested top spot of Britain's favourite dishes!. Much of the Indian cuisine available in Britain though is perhaps a little less than authentic and is tailor made for British palates, rather than typical of India!. UK Indian food is fairly standard, whereas India has lots of regional cuisines we rarely see here!. Some "Indian" dishes are possibly not even Indian!. Tikka Masala, for instance, was reputedly first cooked in a Glasgow Bangladeshi restaurant, deliberately to make an Indian style dish the British would find palatable!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
