Are pet store crickets human edible if cooked? How do I cook them? Where can I get cheap human edible bugs?!

Question: Are pet store crickets human edible if cooked!? How do I cook them!? Where can I get cheap human edible bugs!?
A while back I was at a church youth group and our youth pastor had gotten a can of fried mole crickets on line and challenged us to eat them in a game!. A bunch of sissys where all screaming so i went up and did it!. To my surprise they tasted like peanuts and i kept the can! I am a vegitarian and dont concider bugs to be a meat!. The nutritional value of bugs is insane and would help me with the amount of protein that I need!. I want to know if there is any place that i could get bugs to eat!? I dont want to go out of my way to order them online cus the shipping would be way too much and my mom can hardly pay the bills as it is!? Would it be the same to get pet store crickets and fry them up on the stove!? I need to know b4 i go and do this and get a bunch of diseases lol!. How wouls u fry them anyway!? If anyone has any help i would really appriciate it!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Yes, crickets are edible and a good source of protien!. However, they are high in cholesterol!. Here is a recipe I found on line:

Popcorn Crunch
Here's an easy treat to prepare and take to the drive-in movie!. The kids will love it!.

1/2 cup butter, melted
1/2 cup honey
3 quarts popcorn, popped
1 cup dry roasted insects, chopped

Blend the butter and honey together in a saucepan and heat gently!. Mix the popcorn with the insects and pour the
butter-honey mixture over it!. Mix well!. Spread on a cookie sheet in a thin layer!. Bake at 350° 10 to 15 minutes, or until
crisp!. Break into bite-sized pieces!.

Dry Roasted Grasshoppers
Spread fresh, frozen and cleaned insects on paper towels on a cookie sheet!. Bake at 200° for 1-2 hours until desired state
of dryness is reached!. Check state of dryness by attempting to crush insect with spoon!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I *ADORE* sanctimonious vegetarians who feel that they have the right to proclaim what is "meat" and what isn't!

Cows should definitely have more rights than crickets do!

KUDOS TO YOU for proving me right once again!.

I know you can dry-roast them and add seasoning!. My bf says they're sold everywhere in Mexico that way!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

The reading of this entire web site will help you immensely!. It has provided enlightenment to me!. Buying insects is the easiest way to get edible insects, but it is also the most expensive (ain't it always the way!?)!. Most pet stores and bait shops carry crickets and mealworms, two of the most easily raised and prepared insect species!. You can also buy these insects in bulk from various insect suppliers!. The only preparation that you need give to insects acquired in this manner is that of feeding them for a few days on fresh grain; most insects you buy at bait shops or pet stores have been eating newspaper, sawdust, or similarly unsavory packing material, which, while completely harmless, might affect the insect's taste if you ate them while the material was still in their digestive tract!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
