We are having a hawaiian themed food day at work and I want to make either a salad or an appetizer-any good, easy ideas!? Something that doesn't need any heating up at lunch!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

you'll probably get this answer a lot, but it always safe to go with a fruit salad for ANY topical theme!. but the fruits you choose to use can really help set the theme!.

go with things like pineapple, kiwi, mandarin oranges, bananas, white grapes!.

you could also set out some whole sugarcane if your local supermarket carries it!.

as for decorations, look at oriental trading Company!. they have lots of novelty party stuff, and its all good quality, reusable, and affordable!.

anything with ham, or pineapple is always good too!.
stur-fry!? ham, bamboo shoots,pineapple, grilled-chicken seasonings!. stuff like that!. makes a great stur-fry, maybe not for the office though!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Hawaii's culture is a big melting pot of Filipino, Chinese, Japanese, and Portuguese cultures!.
I would do some coconut shrimp with pineapple coconut dipping sauce!. Just use Japanese panko bread crumbs and shredded coconut!.!.!.whip two eggs together and stir in shrimp to soak up some eggs, dip shrimp in the bread crumbs and coconut and deep fry!. Sauce, you can get a can of pina colada cream and add some pineapple juice heat til combine , delicious!.
Salad: you can do something with chicken tenders in the same bread crumb with coconut on top of toss salad with tiny bite size pineapple pieces and some candie macadamia nuts ( brown sugar, butter, cinnamon , vanilla in a sauce pan, cook til sauce is thick throw in nuts and coat) pick out a tropical type dressing and your all set!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

My husband was born in Hawaii (and has alot of relatives there), and we've been there at least 20 times!. I've never even seen anyone eating spam, or seen it on a menu!. I'm not sure where the spam thing comes from:) !.!.!.!.!.!. Bring some bowls of FRESH coconut chunks, macadamia nuts and sugar cane pieces (in the produce department)!. Many people have never tasted these things !.!.!.!. FRUIT SALAD: mango, papaya, strawberries, starfruit, guava, and pineapple !.!.!.!. POI tastes absolutely dreadful, but is a standard at any luau!.
