What is MSG and what is the controversy?!

Question: What is MSG and what is the controversy!?
Answers:
"MSG" is seasoning salt, a flavor-enhancer extracted from seaweed and used for thousands of years without any controversy or apparent ill-effect until the FDA imposed a labeling law requiring it to be called "mono-sodium glutamate"!. This is the same law that require table salt to be labeled "sodium chloride"!.

While it is certainly possible that a tiny minority of people are somewhat "sensitive" to it, one has to bear in mind that there are far higher levels of MSG in Italian food than Chinese food (the tomato is an extremely rich source of MSG), yet people who claim a reaction to "Chinese food" rarely complain about "Italian food syndrome"!.

Double-blind studies have shown that "allergic" people will react to MSG-free Chinese food and not react to other foods with MSG added, which would seem to suggest that in most cases, it isn't "real"!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

MSG stands for Monosodium glutamate or I say "Makes Stuff Good"!. Its generally used as a flavor enhancer in foods!. You can find it on top ramen or your local authentic asian crusine!.
The generally controversy is that the FDA concluded that MSG was safe for most people when "eaten at customary levels!." However, it also said that, based on anecdotal reports, some people may have an MSG intolerance which causes "MSG symptom complex"(commonly referred to as Chinese restaurant syndrome) and/or a worsening of asthmatic symptoms!. Generally for people who suffer from these symptoms avoid MSG!. Many restaurants are debating whether to serve this or not and this is the controversy!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Mono-sodium glutamate ( MSG ) is a flavor enhancer used typically in chinese restaurants!. MSG makes your taste buds more receptive to the flavor that you are eating!.

As for the controversy!.!.!.!.some people are highly allergic to MSG!. It has also been known to cause head aches, high blood pressure and a feeling of being bloated!. It also stimulates the appetite!.!.!.!.which of course can lead to over indulgence!.

Many restaurants have now stopped using MSG because of these reasons!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Adding MSG is suppose to give the food more flavor!. I personally don't like it much because once I eat something with MSG I end up so weak and all I do is want to sleep, typically that comes when eating Chinese Food, well at least most cases, but sometimes after Thai Food too because it's all so good when you eat so much good food, whether or not it has MSG it just makes you want to take a nap!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
