Question: Is it true that originally Italians didn't eat pasta dishes as a mains & this is a recent globalization of it!?
Even that most Italians still don't do this, except in perhaps the last generation who don't know!? That it has always been a starter by 'true' Italians!. Clearly this is some dinner table conversation :)Www@FoodAQ@Com

As I've been led to understand it, it's not that Italians don't eat pasta dishes as main dishes, but that in a traditional, multi-course Italian meal, the pasta course will generally come before the meat course (the same way that, at a very fancy dinner in the United States the fish course is traditionally served before the meat course)!.

They are both "main" dishes, but tradition does have them in a specific order!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I don't know exactly what you mean by originally!. It is said that Marco Polo brought Pasta back to Italy from China!. But that is a myth, the Romans and the Etruscans in Italy had been making it well before then!.
Now as far as 19th and 20th century Italians, my grandparents came here from Italy in the late 1800's!. They never had a dinner that didn't include a side of pasta, IF it wasn't the actual main course!. My father carried on the "tradition" in our home!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

you are on the wrong track with this one, it has always been part of their staple diet ,to this day ,it is in demand as a filler ,albeit in soup ,ie!. minestrone etc!. or as a main meal , but they didn`t go to the expence of bolognaise ,that was mainly a restaurant line ,introduced in the latter years ,as was pizzaWww@FoodAQ@Com

Nope, is not true!.
