Do Americans eat beans on toast?!

Question: Do Americans eat beans on toast?
As in Heinz baked beans on toast.
Sometimes with cheese... and brown sauce. Nom nom.

And no I don't mean like beans that you have in chilli or burritos, although they're also great.

Answers:

They do now, I know what I'm having for lunch today.

It's not really part of our culture, so it's not typical. I've tried it a few times, initially to see what the fuss is about and again because I liked it. It's a nice, cheap, easy to make vegetarian lunch. I like to spread dijon mustard on the toast before topping it with the beans, and then top it off with a bit of melted, shredded cheddar and a few grinds of fresh black pepper.

Also, apparently our Heinz baked beans are different from your's. Your's come in a blue can marked "Heinz Baked Beans", whereas ours come in a green can labelled "Heinz Vegetarian Beans". Our's have brown sugar in the recipe, giving them a sweeter, more caramelized taste, a darker color, and a thicker consistency.

I live in an area with a lot of Irish and English specialty stores that sell imported cans.

Not in the southeast US where I live. I never even heard of that or marmite till I came to Y!A Food section. I have to say I think the thought is novel but have not dared to try it yet. I might do it with bacon and cheese.

I don't and I have never seen anyone eat beans on toast. But then again, there are always a small percentage of people out there that do completely the opposite and will eat that.
