What type of Chinese pastry is this?!

Question: What type of Chinese pastry is this?
My parents always buy this pastry from chinatown since I was little and I only know what they're called in Chinese and how they look. But I really want to know what they're called in English and what they're made out of.

It's called "haam chit sou" and it sorta looks like a palmier pastry. If anyone who is Chinese would hopefully know what I'm talking about. If you guys don't know what sou is, wikipedia it. That's the best I can explain about these pastries but any help would be gratefully appreciated.
