I had Pho for the first time and I almost threw it back up?!

Question: I had Pho for the first time and I almost threw it back up?
The taste was extremely weird and tasted awful. I've never seen those leafy green herbs before swimming in the soup. My friends like it more than anything, but I completely hate it. Why is that?

It's clearly a matter of taste.

I'm not a Pho fan either.

I love herbs but the way Basil is used in Pho turns me off. I dislike the lime and ginger taste in it as well as the bean sprouts so you're not alone.

Ph? is basically just beef stock....and those "leafy green herbs swimming in the soup" were basil, which is what pesto is made of and what flavors spaghetti sauce....do beef stock, spaghetti sauce & pesto make you "throw up"? If not, you are either physically ill (and should see a doctor) or have some kind of psychosomatic problem (and should see a psychiatrist!)...

Yes one of there herbs is Basil. But there is also fresh Mint and Cilantro. Cilantro is an herb that people seen to either love or hate. Besides most good Pho places will put the herbs on the side so you can add or not add as you eat.

You go ahead and stick with your Campbells Chicken Noodle Soup. The safer the better for you. Now be careful opening opening that can. Be safe, you don't want to get cut. No Pho for you...better play it safe.

"I've never seen those leafy green herbs before "

Never eaten spaghetti sauce? That's basil - it's in almost all tomato based Italian sauces, and in caprese salad.

It's very good stuff, IMO. More for me.

everyone's tastes are different
i love pho... you don't.

wouldn't the world be a boring place if EVERYONE only liked certain things?

Why you hated it?

You have different food likes and dislikes. Some people would say you are picky, but that's they way you grew up.

Try a different place then.
