Is it ok to freeze cooked brown rice?!

Question: Is it ok to freeze cooked brown rice?
Ok so I like rice but hate cooking it. I have been buying those ready cooked rice bags that you microwave but they are expensive and have preservatives in them.

Would it be ok if I boiled up a load of rice then put individual portions in freezer bags then microwaves them when I wanted or will I lose all the goodness etc?

Answers:

Yes, rice can definitely be frozen and microwaved lated. The point about bacteria, rice like all kinds of cooked food should be cooled in the shortest time possible in order to avoid bacteria growth. The proper way is to spread the food out on wide trays or containers so heat disperses quickly. As soon as the food is cooled enough it should be frozen ASAP. Before consuming the food should only be thawed in the fridge or within the shortest time possible again to avoid bacteria growth, and reheated to the required temperatures in order to kill any bacteria.

Yes, you can freeze brown rice. I've got this info online and is what I usually would do to freeze my rice especially brown rice so it will comes handy when required.

Do not use quick-cooking microwavable rice for this recipe. It will become gummy when reheated.

1. Measure as much rice as desired into a pot and cook according to the instructions on the
package. Consult the packaging to determine how much water to add. Remove the rice from
the heat about 5 minutes before it is finished cooking. The rice will finish cooking when it is
reheated in the microwave.
2. Let the rice cool uncovered for 30 minutes, or until it is nearly room temperature.
3. Measure the rice into 1-cup batches. Pour each cup of rice into a separate zip-top bag.
4. Lay the bags down flat on a table or counter top. Press gently on the bags to smooth and
flatten the rice and release as much air as possible. Seal the bags.
5. Place the bags of rice on their sides in the freezer.
6. Reheat the frozen rice by opening the zip-top bag about a quarter of an inch to let steam
escape. Put the bag in the microwave on full power for 3 minutes. The bag will puff up. Let the
bag sit for 1 minute, then pour the rice into a dish and serve.

No, you must not freeze and reheat rice, it carries a lot of bacteria. I'm suprised you didn't know this.

I think so, just put in those baggies?
