Big difference and it's all in the flavour.
They work very well together as well as separately.

Thyme is used extensively in European cooking and as a basis for herbs in soups, stocks and many sauces and in Herbes de Provence. the leaves are small and have a mild fragrance with lemon thyme being one of the newest additions to the herb's family. It grows well in many climates and has small purple or white flowers.

Oregano is used extensively in Mediterranean sauces and meals, Greek, Italian, South of France, as well as in Mexican foods. It grows well in very hot and dry conditions and the leaves are about the size of a sunflower seed or a bit larger sometimes. It is quite pungent and over spicing with oregano leaves a bitter flavour.

They are two different plants, and as such taste different. You can however use them in the same recipes and also together.
