Coq au vin (chicken, red wine, lardons (salt pork), button mushrooms, onions, often garlic, and sometimes brandy), is a classical french dish. or

Boeuf Bourguignon (beef stew prepared with beef braised in red wine, traditionally red Burgundy, and beef broth, generally flavoured with garlic, onions and a bouquet garni, with pearl onions and mushrooms added towards the end of cooking)

Dessert - Creme brulee

The classics that are popular around the world are 'coq au vin' and 'duck a l'orange'.

Ages ago for my french class I had to do a similar thing about a region mentioning food and I found something called a 'tartiflette' - sounds different and less predictable than the others so it might be a better option!

However, if you want to discuss traditional french meals that are common in homes in France perhaps 'pot au feu' which literately means 'pot on the fire' which is a French beef stew.

Foie gras might be good because you could start a debate on whether or not it should be allowed as the ducks/ geese are force fed.

Sorry for going on! In a nutshell:

- classics like coq au vin or duck a l'orange
- something different like tartiflette
- traditional food in french homes - pot au feu
- something that is an interesting food to discuss - foie gras

Hope that helps!

A simple one would be Cassoulet : this dish comes from South western France and is basically made of beans cooked in goose fat with sausage and tomatoe sauce (no ketchup please !). A glass of strong red wine comes as the perfect matching beverage. Instead of sausages you can have chicken liver or duck confit.

Crepe Suzette
