Chuney is a side sauce. The one I make is spicy, but it can also be un spicy and minty c;

Chutney is a condiment like catsup or salsa or cranberry sauce and is used in East Indian and Asian foods.

It is usually sweet and spicy and goes well with all sorts of meats and cheeses and curried dishes.

It is made from a variety of things, often tropical fruit like mangoes, peppers, ginger, tamarind and sugar or brown sugar or palm sugar to sweeten it.

It is a great way to use up the season's bounty of fruit and veg. I make it and process it like jam to have with roasted meats, curries and on sandwiches.

Branston Pickle Relish in the UK is a type of chutney and its main ingredient is turnips... but we love it anyways. It is great on a cheese sandwich or a cold meat sandwich or plate.

Tamarind, which is also used in a lot of chutneys and in Worchestershire sauce and in Branston Relish, is tart & sour and acidic and works like a preservative.

I would recommend going for an East Indian or African meal and trying out the chutney. Then make a small batch of your own if you have a jalapeno pepper, an apple, a pear, some crystallized ginger, brown sugar, raisins and/or dates. there are tons of recipes out there.

You will notice that East Indian menus also have a dish called Raita on the menu and that is made with yogurt and it is used to "cool" down the heat of the curry, to add more protein to the diet- especially if the curry is lentils and as a side dish.

chutney is basically a sauce that you eat with appetizers. We basically use chutney for samosas, bhaigani,doubles,aloo pie,sahina. There are many different types of chutney. Some of the chutney my family makes are; coconut chutney,pomcythere chutney, tamarind chutney, cucumber chutney. But they all taste great with our traditional dishes we make. basically what we do for the cocnut chutney is that we grate the coconut we add this green seasoning that is made of fresh herbs and spices that we make and we cook it. the tamarind we just use the tamarind add some sugar,water and spices and cook it till it becomes syrup like.

i think its an indian sause made with spices and chilles
