What type of "dish" is Bruschetta? Are there more recipes for "Fancy toast with tasty stuff on 'em&q!

Question: What type of "dish" is Bruschetta? Are there more recipes for "Fancy toast with tasty stuff on 'em"? Thank you?
So, my wife and I were eating at Bell-Fountain Inn in the Caledon area of Toronto and we were enjoying a "Bruschetta-Like" dish which was some kind of toasty flat bread with amazing salty toppings like tomato, mushrooms and the like. She mentioned how much she liked the dish and so I thought that since I need something easy to make for her, this type of recipe would be ideal. I could just imagine something with smoked salmon or eggplant. So, what are these types of foods called? Are they open faced sandwiches? Also where is a good place to look for recipes? Thank you!

Answers:

I think you're looking for the word "canapé". It's basically a piece of toast with some kind of spread on it, served as an appetizer. Very similar to an open-faced sandwich! But I think doing a search using canapé will get you what you're looking for.

If you're looking for some recipes, try allrecipes.com, or epicurious.com. They usually have good stuff. Or just try a Google search for something along the lines of "canape + salmon" and you should find some great stuff.

And now I feel like having some bruschetta =)

Bruschetta is an Italian dish. In Italy they pronounce it like Brusketta. In terms of what you'd call it in relation to your meal, in the traditional Italian sense you'd call it antipasti which literally means "before the meal". There's lots of types of antipasti, salad, meat, cheese, bruschetta is one of those things.

Check out the book Molto Gusto. It's a very traditionally styled selection of Itialian recipes and a whole section dedicated to bruschetta recipes.

Bruchetta is usually toasted crusty Italian bread pieces w. tomatoes and olive oil, and sometimes w. a bit of melted cheese. In restaurants it is served as an appetizer or 'starter', so search under those categories. Your idea of salmon or eggplant can work as well.

If not for the fact its an Italian starter/snack, you could be forgiven for thinking its a Spanish tapas dish.

appetizers is what I would call them...tapas might be helpful if you're searching, but covers more than just bread dishes. The mediterranean has a ton of good options. check out mezze platters for some ideas
