Does anyone know what this bread is?!

Question: Does anyone know what this bread is?
The crust was a brown/dark golden color. The inside wasn't white; it looked more like a whole grain, but it wasn't. It had a very doughy texture and was shaped like a big round coil or braid. The taste was slightly sweet and like egg yolks (possibly had olive oil?). It was the best bread ever! ^o^

I thought the package said pareve challah, but I had my mother buy me one, and it was way too light--texture and color wise. T.T

Answers:

it was challah, possibly whole wheat. challah varies greatly according to bakery and brand. of course, home made challah is much more delicious than store bought. challah can be sweet or savory, be made of wheat, other grain, or a blend. it can have an egg wash on it or not, and it can be topped with sesame seeds, poppy seeds, or nothing at all. during the jewish new year holidays, (around september- october) it is sold sweet, often with raisins or chocolate chips.

my suggestion would be to try to buy challah from the same place you bought it last time if you want it to taste the same as it did.

It might be challah, but depending on the recipe used, it might not be exactly the same as what you had before. It could be brioche, but I've only ever seen that in loaf form. Pulla is a Scandanavian sweet bread that has eggs in it and is often braided, and often has cardamom in it.
