Question: Do manufactured cakes or home made cakes have more calories in general?
i made a plain sponge cake with jam and butter icing in the middle and was just wondering if this would have had more or less calories than if i would have bought it from a shop

Manufactured usually have more calories. Also when making your own cake you can choose if you want to add/remove things from the recipe, so you control how many calories.

Definitely manufactured cakes contain more calories.

Shops have to have their products on sale for as long as possible, so they put in harmful artificial chemicals in them to prevent them from rotting quickly, so they aren't fresh at all.

Although you may think you used a lot of fatty ingredients in your cake that sounds amazing, it's no where near unhealthy or bad for your body as the manufactured cakes on display in supermarkets.

I am not a nutritionist so I can't tell you for sure, but considering a cake from a shop is usually packed with all these artificial chemicals and extras to make them taste better... I'm guessing they are the less healthy option- if not less fattening then certainly less good for you! Either way, simple home baking gets my vote every time! xx
