Depends on what your view of Mexican food is. There is no standardized Mexican cuisine, as each region of Mexico has their own version of the same recipes. You must also not confuse Mexican cuisine with Tex Mex or Cal Mex. If you are visiting Mexico, the best source of information is taxi drivers, they are well informed on the best eating places, from street stands to restaurants.
I've eaten Mexican food all over the world, including Mexico. The best I've ever had was at a Maria's is Santa Fe New Mexico.
