I just made some homemade refried beans today! I used a can of pinto beans though. I heated 1 1/2-2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a pan then just poured the can in. Mash up the beans with a potato masher and let them cook until they are thick! You can add salt and garlic salt to taste. You can also use olive oil or bacon grease. They turned out good and it was my first time making them!

To improve canned refried beans is easy. Heat a good bit of lard or bacon grease in a heavy saucepan and cook thinly sliced onions until they're almost burned. Put in the canned beans and stir the grease into the beans. Add a bit of water if they're too thick. Season with salt and pepper to taste. If you like them spicy, after the onions are almost done, put in some thinly sliced jalapenos for a minute, them add the canned beans.

I would first taste the ones in can and figure out what taste you remember then if not what you like re-fry them in a couple tables spoons of fresh not bacon grease from last week plus if to thick thin out with chicken or pork stock water makes the taste watered down and bland
