Is it safe to cook and eat rat meat?!

Question: Is it safe to cook and eat rat meat?
Not those city rats..yuck. I'm referring to forest rats. Those that live the all natural life.

Answers:

As long as the animal hasn't eaten anything harmful; the meat has been kept at a safe temperature throughout processing (less than 41 or over 140 degrees), unless it is being cooked right after being killed; and as long as the meat is cooked all the way (165 degrees internal temp). If these guidelines are followed, just about any meat is safe to eat. Not that I would WANT to, necessarily!

well i am sure it is ok to do so
as a matter of fact i watched a documentary on a state in the u.s. that is very poor
and do not have an address so can not receive welfare
and they go out and catch rats to eat.
now this to me is so sad and crazy that in this great country people actually have to do this ..

Yes. Many people do.
