Yes, most stores carry frozen pizza dough, but many now also sell fresh pizza dough.
You can make dough in 1/4 of the time it takes to drive to the market and back. I make a few weekly and it takes me about 10 minutes to do both. I buy yeast and flour in bulk and as a result, I can make a pizza dough for pennies. Yeast can be purchased at costco for $3.50 a kilo (2.2 lbs). Mine has lasted me 18 months of making dough. Flour can be had for about $7.50 at costco for 25 lbs.
This is how I do it.
In a bowl or workbowl of a food processor (the easiest) combine...
3 cups flour
1 1/2 tsp yeast
2 tsp salt
Then mix in 1 cup water and 2 tbs olive oil (mix the olive oil and water before pouring). Pour it into the food processor in a steady stream with the motor running. If working by hand then just dump it in the bowl and stir with a spoon until it comes together and then finish mixing with your hands. Have an additional 1/4 cup water on hand in case your dough is dry.
Once it is combined then knead on a floured board about 30-40 times, rub olive oil on the dough and put into a plastic bag or covered bowl to rise for 1 1/2 hours.
You can either use it right now or for best results, refrigerate for a day or two and take out a few hours before you need it.
What supermarkets are nearby you? I live in the South. Our Publix supermarket carries a yeasted pizza dough in the bakery. You buy it. Take it home. Let it rise. And then toss and prepare it.
There are ready-made pizza dough crusts like Bibloi pizza crust, sold in the supermarket. And packages of "ready to make" pizza crust, which is chemically yeasted flour that you mix with water. A typically brand of this is by Chef Boyardee.
most supermarkets carry kits, with powder to make your own, and usually also frozen dough. some will also sell you fresh dough in their bakery department
many also carry precooked pizza crust you can just put on whatever toppings you want and bake. (my personal choice)
Yeah for sure, I've worked at Walmart, Costco, and Sam's Club. All these provide pizza dough in pre-packaged containers. Hope this helps!
