Americans like to eat sandwiches and pasta.
I live in Texas, so I like to eat things like "chicken and dumplings", 'tex-mex enchiladas" and hamburgers. A favorite food of mine is Macaroni and Cheese!
Pancakes are also very tasty and easy to make.
If you want the recipe for any of these ideas, just let me know!
Well, that's very stereotypical. America is a country of many cultures, so there is so much variety. If I was hungry, I'd probably eat a turkey sandwich with chips. Wheat bread, mayo, turkey, lettuce & Lays potato chips on it. Not healthy, but who cares.
I live in America...
Meat and potatoes is kinda the main American combination. Meat - beef, turkey, meatloaf, pork etc... And potatoes - mashed or baked. ..... Basically anytype of combination with these foods as the main dish.

Remember, here in America, we have VERY few, if any, true "American" foods. Nearly every food you find is influenced by some other culture. Like our music.
Hamburgers and hot dogs-Deuchland
Pizza-Italia
Barbeque-Africa, France, Native American Indian.
So on and so on...
If you want to be as American as possible, go try the little "mom and pop" resturaunts.
Depending on where you live will tell you what is "American" for your area.
South= Barbeque, Soul Food ("peasant" food, first prepared by slaves with very little and low quality ingrediants, made to taste AMAZING), lots of beef, pork and fried foods
Midwest= Chicken, lots of starches (potatoes, turnips, mostly potatoes lol) with the random influences of Germanic and Asian cultures (seriously, biggest Korean and Vietnameese populations outside of those countries!)
Northeast/New England= Lobster, chowders, clams, other styles of cooking are HUGE melting pot style. (New York was first stop for many immigrants.)
West Coast= Fresh, local ingredients. Lots of seafood, crab, very random and wonderfull mix of cultures. This was another entrance point for immigrants.
Go try a bit of everything! The most "American" thing you can eat is any type of "fusion food".
Kinds of flavors you wouldn't expect to go together.
A great way to find examples of this is by watching Food Network's "Diners, Drive-In's and Dives".
Have fun!
(for late night munchies, any small local place that's open is almost always a good bet. Look for lines and full parking lots. People don't go there if it's not really good. Cheap late night eats- of course fast food. Pick the foods that seem a little different though and you'll get a lovely treat)
Welcome to our home, hope you enjoy your stay!
Being American means embracing diversity!
