The French eat a five or six course meal. They eat an appetizer, main entree, cheese course, dessert course, and a small alcoholic drink to round of the meal. They eat bread between meals.
-- Appetizer (in French: l'entree) --
* Soupe l'oignon (onion soup)
* Salade (salad, can be any kind of salad)
* Bouillabaisse (fish soup)
-- Entree (The word entree does not mean the main course in French. The main course is called le plat principal). --
* Coq au vin (chicken with wine)
* Canard a l'orange (orange duck)
-- Desserts (in French: le desserts) -
* Macaron (it's a completely different dessert from a coconut macaroon). It is an almond sandwich cookie filled with jam or buttercream. Macarons comes in various colors (like green, pink, red, etc.).
* Mousse au Chocolat - chocolate mousse. it's very popular in France.
* Tarte aux pommes - in French that translates to "apple pie". The French version is competely different, as the French version has no top crust. It looks more like a tart than a pie.
-- Beverages (in French: les boissons) --
I don't believe that there are special beverages in France. They drink the same things as Americans do. They drink coffee, coke, water, etc.

Try Nutella spread on bread for breakfast or as a snack. Nutella is a hazelnut spread that has a hint of chocolate to it. The french treat it like we would treat jam or milk and cookies as an after-school snack for kids.
My old French teacher gave it to us in one of our classes to give us a flavor of what kids in France typically ate.
It's actually pretty darn good...even for someone who's not into sweets.
