What is the best type of rice to use for steamed rice?!

Question: What is the best type of rice to use for steamed rice?
What is the best type of rice i can buy for Asian style steamed rice

Answers:

I always use Japanese rice which is of the Japonica type for steamed rice. It is a white, short, wide grain rice with a starchy texture when cooked. It is great for steamed rice as it goes nice and fluffy when prepared right.

I have used long grain, sticky, and Brown rice. It is not so much the type of rice used but the proportion of water to rice. FYI I use 2 cup of water to 1 cup brown rice. I use 1 1/2 cups of water to 1 cup of long grain rice and I use 1 1/4 cups of water to 1 cup of sticky rice. Everyone likes their rice a different tenderness but I like mine al dente and these ratios work for me. Happy cooking!

Short grained rice if you like it fluffy and soft. Long grained (the kind sold in generic supermarkets) if you like yours firmer and not sticky. Note: if you plan to make fried rice with the leftovers, I suggest long grains. The short grained kind will turn into a mushy lump if you tried making fried rice out of it.

I use basmati or jasmine if I'm out of basmati.

I love Jasimine rice, Thai Jasimine has a very nice fragrance while cooking!
