What is the best kind of Chinese tea I can buy for cheap?!

Question: What is the best kind of Chinese tea I can buy for cheap?
I need to buy some for my history class. We have 28 kids and I need something I can get near my house (not in China if you know what I mean).

I run a tea site which has a ton of info about Chinese tea: http://ratetea.net/region/china/1/

That's probably more info than you need though. It's hard to buy Chinese tea at a supermarket because most mainstream brands are blends, not specifically Chinese. If you buy Jasmine tea, it's probably from China. Certain styles of tea, if you can find them (Keemun black tea, Lapsang Souchong tea) are from China. A lot of inexpensive tea is grown in China but isn't always labelled as such. If you read labels you may be able to find tea from China, such as green tea.

Avoid Sencha or genmaicha - those are Japanese green teas, even though they're sometimes grown in China.

Oolong tea is probably your best bet if you want to get a tea grown in China, one that is really characteristic of Chinese tea. Most oolong tea is grown in China so if you buy a generic tea marked as "oolong" it's highly likely that it's from China. If you look through the listings on my tea site: http://ratetea.net/style/oolong-tea/3/ you will see that almost all the oolongs are from China and the ones that aren't are mostly from Taiwan, which is culturally Chinese and viewed by some as part of China even though it has a separate government.

Good luck!

do you have an ethnic store or a Chinatown nearby? If so, you'll definitely find what you're looking for. The alternative would be to Google a place that'll ship to you.
