This style of cooking is called Teppanyaki, and these restaurants are usually called Teppanyaki Steakhouses or Japanese Steakhouses. In the US they are often called Hibachi and the Benihana chain is one of the most famous in America.

Benihana is where you went. Benihana is right in front of the Hilton Hawaiian Village the hotel with the rainbow on it. There are alot of place like this.

Its not only hawaii ,that this practice is done ,it is common most places ,however for the first visit you would have been impressed ,with the way they flick the food across the counter straight into your mouth , I have been to the place you talk about...steep isn`t it



Benihana...they're a chain everywhere. Couldn't testify to the authenticity of the food though.
