Question: Do you need a license to serve food?
like if you wanted to serve food to a group of hobos would you have to get a license to do it? or could you just do it?

You can give away whatever you like.

But if you're going to charge money, you need a licence, and probably a hygiene certificate, depending on where you live.



Health laws vary from county to county - so without some more information we really can't give you an answer. If any license is needed - it is a health and sanitation certificate of the kitchen it was prepared in - not for the servers.

But generally if you aren't selling the food you do not have to use a licensed kitchen. Some jurisdictions say if you are serving people outside of your home, for free, you must notify the recipients that the food was prepared in an unlicensed kitchen.

See - it all varies by the county you live in.



You have to have a license to do it. A friend of mine knew a guy who was sent to prison a couple times because he lead an organization that did exactly what you're asking.



I think you do need some kind of vendor's license. That way u have to follow food regulations in order to keep it. Call the county Health Dept.
