If you can you should get several ears of corn and put them on a grill. It's one of the simplest but best-tasting things I've ever had. Navajo fry bread is also amazing. Whenever I go to powwows, it's one of the things I look forward to the most.

i invested in a lot of cookery books, and there are a lot of good web sites
contrary to belief, there are a lot of awesome dishes to try
i dont have many problems getting supplies, there are a few good american grocery shops here in the UK now and once you get used to the terminology ie; all purpose flour is plain flour etc, its easy enough to follow, and i now find cup measures make much more sense than weighing!
my current passion is food from the deep south
gosh its "stick to your ribs" food
but VERY lush!
You are in scotland therefore you are automaticely super duper cool, do you were a kilt, and sing, and have an accent, oh ya, hot dogs are great and so are hamburgers, and pizza, some might say that that is an italian food but pizza hut and dominos and most definetly not italian. HORRAY
Biscuits and gravy is great for breakfast. Our biscuits are like scones except that they are round (about 3 inches in diameter) and have no fruit in them (plain). Gravy is usually a white cream gravy, you can fry some sausage if you like and then make the gravy with that if you don't want plain gravy. Look at All Recipes. com for recipes for both.
Fried chicken is another American dish. Add some seasoning to 2 cups of flour (garlic powder, seasoning salt, paprika, black pepper or whatever you like) and stir it up. Dip dried-off chicken pieces in a mixture of one egg with an equal amount of milk stirred in and then the flour, do this two times and when you are finished dipping all the pieces, fry them in hot oil. Watch carefully so that they don't burn. Serve with a fresh vegetable or salad such as cole slaw, and some hot rolls.
