They usuaully make everything they own with little or no help from outside their community.

No, they do not. They purchase it at a store. The people who are telling you that they make everything themselves have inaccurate stereotypical ideas of how the Amish live without any first hand knowledge. They are giving you the wrong answer.

Reside in an area with a large Amish population and interact with Amish people on a regular basis.

If Amish people need butter I am sure they make it themselves. Butter is just cream that's been beaten senseless. Take some whole cream put it in a jar and shake it until next week and you will eventually have butter. If they don't have cows to get the cream from, then I suppose they can't make their own.

I've made butter.

Of course! They make their own clothes too :)
There are lots of good documentaries to watch about Amish people. Documentaries can be easier to learn from the books sometimes. And they're more trusting than websites. Check some out. Visit a library or something.

No, they make neither there own or here own butter but they do make their own butter.
