Don't think its legal to eat Chinese water deer meat now since they are now officially a threatened species and with the British population thought to compose up to 10% of the total world count only.
You can always check with the butcher but I know that types of venison is available in season from butchers, especially in UK country areas.
In Beijing you will find it easily,and all over china..
