It is because China has a one child policy. If a couple already had a child and the wife got pregnant, they will abort it. There are many pregnant woman who undergo abortion.The doctors who did the operation sometimes bring the fetus home for his family to eat.

There is also a popular dish of duckling fetus egg (Balut) in Vietnam.
What is gross or not acceptable as food to one may be delicacy to the others since taste is subjective and choice of foods differ from every part of the world.
