They choose not to eat pork for one simple reason: It's a HEALTH LAW in THEIR BIBLE, not the Christian Bible. Muslims don't eat pork because pigs eat human flesh. Fresh or rotten, pigs will eat most anything. This violates the health laws of old when disease typically resulted from unclean animals, referred to in other comments here as 'hooved' animals. They are actually referred to as 'cloven hooved' animals. That also includes a number of other animals according to their feet/hooves. As for Muslims that don't eat unclean animals, they also consider all non-Muslims to be unclean infidels and believe that all of us should be killed. I wouldn't worry about offending a Muslim by accidentally serving the person pork, I'd be more worried about the fact that he wants to kill you because of his religious standards if YOU eat pork, thereby making you an unclean infidel.

Eating pork is disobedience to God... therefore is a bad deed.

Nevertheless, life should be preserved as best you can so in times of starvation if pork is the ONLY thing available, it is permissible to consume.

It is important to remember that fate lies in the hands of God so we cannot judge. If the person does 'not care' about haram, it suggests lack of knowledge about their own faith. Noone can say: 'Its fine to eat pork, nothing will happen to you.' Neither can we say: 'Ohhh you're going to hell because you eat pork'. It is God's place and His place only to judge and decide. He can punish and He can forgive.

But why would anyone want to damage their chances of gaining heaven?

There's plenty of meat out there - giving up pork is not missing out on much.

If your starving to death and you eat, Then there is no punishment upon you. If you eat it just because you want then you are in danger of the Hellfire. The Quran, which is the direct of Allah(swt) commands us not to.
End of discussion. If a person it's pork intentionally, I am assuming Allahu Aleum, that they should make Wudu and make Tawbah. I don't think it's Kuffar but then again....if you imitate a group of people then you are of those people. Also, lots of people and not just Muslims or Jews, avoid pork. Pigs are filthy animals and will eat anything and everything. They carry boat loads of germs, parasites and bacteria that simply can't be cooked out.

If the person does not believe in the Koran or Mohamed, then probably would no longer consider themselves Muslim, so nothing would happen to them. Muslim is a religion not a heritage or nationality.
