Why do Americans call Crisps chips and chips fries?

Anyway, here in Britain i think we call chips, chips because they are fried or baked "chipped potatoes". We just shortened it down to "chips". Not sure about crisps though, it's just a part of our dialect.

Australian's don't all chips "crisps", we call all chips - chips :)
It's just the way we say things, just like American's use different terminology for various words.

It is not because we are "c***s" but clearly that user is stupid and arrogant enough to think so.

Proud Aussie

British call hot chips CHIPS and potato chips crisps.
Aussies and New Zealanders call all chips CHIPS

It's just the way we say things. Perhaps it's because we are lazy in our speech...

It is just a linguistic difference between GB and US versions of the English language. Language evolves hence the difficulty in reading Shakespeare and other authors from his time.

I've always wondered that too. peppers are called capsicums there and courgets are called zucchini.

Because we are correct, and you are wrong.
