What do Australians usually eat?!

Question: What do Australians usually eat?
I am a Chinese studying in Australia and I get to enjoy a lot of great Asian food because there are many Chinese restaurants here. I don't see many Australian food restaurants, only cafes. I am not talking about Nandos or fast food restaurants. From my knowledge, Australians like eating BBQ sausage and steak. What do they eat daily? Pasta? Roast chicken?

Are their food as innovative and delicious as Chinese food?

Foods Australians eat is a combination of the other cultures that have migrated here starting with British type food such as roasts and pies then European cuisines especially Italian and Greek and most recently Asian flavours Chinese, Vietnamese, Japanese, Indian and those of the Middle East Turkish and Lebanese.

Most homes will include pasta, curry, a stir fry, a roast, steak or chops in their average weekly home cooking

Most of the best/high end restaurants in Australia are serving Modern Australian which is an amalgam of traditional French or Italian methods with the produce of the countries mentioned above and lightened to the Australian palate (less fat and salt).

G'day,

I have been living in Australia for more than 20yrs and from my observation, most modern Aussies nowadays would like to try anything. I work in a government organisations where I can find pretty much ppl from all over the world as my colleagues and one thing that I can say, my Aussie mates do not scare to try new things. They tasted all kind of foods from Thai, Indian, Malaysian, Indonesian, Chinese (of course), Japanese, Korean, Greek, Italian, African and all.

When I got invited to my friends house, regardless whether they's True Blue Aussies or immigrants, there will be BBQ (in summer) mixed with all other combinations of different food. I believe that nowadays, Aussie foods are not only vegemite, pavlova or meat pies, but everything that they have tasted and enjoy.

I strongly recommend that you post the same question to Travel - Australia and you should get much more responses :)

Good luck for your study and enjoy your stay in Oz :)

Well i have australian relatives, they tell me that their food is pretty similar to american food. And i think food adapts to where it's located. So it's like there are different foods in australia bevause of the region. It's like China, the north is cold, and the south is warm? Well wouldn't the food be different because of the climate? I'm guessing they have plenty of seafood. Because they're Down Under. XP

Me. I'm also asian. Cambodian with some cantonese blood. >_<
