What does Persian food taste like?!

Question: What does Persian food taste like?
We have a restaurant near us, and it has really good reviews, but I don't know if I like Persian food. I'm nervous to check it out. What is it comparable to? what spices and flavors are used?

EMA- It's understandable that you might be a bit aprehensive to try a new (ancient) cuisine...but trust me on this...you should give it a try. Persian food has alot of flavorful combinations. I've never tried a dish I didn't like and when I go to my favorite place, I usually end up "researching" the menu for my next visit! It is a cuisine that stands on it's own but does incorporate some elements of Indian & Mediterranean flavors. One place that I go to has a comprehensive menu (I'm presuming they'll have some similar dishes at the restaurant you are intending to try). Take a peek at this website...as you click on the various sections of the menu they include photos of each dish. Don't get to hung up on the names if you can't pronounce them...once you get a taste of some of these wonderful dishes trust me...you won't forget their names or flavors.

Also, here's a few great "starter" dishes I would recommend:
-Any of their flatbreads like Naan or Lavash
-Kebobs (Perfectly grilled meats: Beef, chicken, seafood or lamb) served with grilled tomatoes/onions on a soft bed of Basmati Rice.
-Koobadeh (koo-bah-day) (Like a Kabab this has ground meat that has been combined with spices and cooked on a long sword on the grill. It is great. A definite favorit of mine...darn you're making ME hungry for this too now!
-Pomegranite chicken: A savory dish of chicken infused with the sweet & sour flavors of pomegranites.

I do hope you'll give this delicious cuisine & culture a chance by taking a Culinary Adventure before you write it off...

You can cook authentic Persian meals at home by seasoning food with the spices of the Middle East. Persian cuisine originates in the region that is now called Iran, but the seasonings also show influences from the surrounding region. Persian cooks use a variety of spices, preserved citrus and herb blends to create complex flavor in meat and vegetable dishes. It only takes a few minutes of research to find a selection of spices for cooking full-flavored traditional Persian fare.

It is pretty healthy and good. There are beef, chicken or lamb kabobs, rice, salad. Most middle easterners don't fry there food, use olive oil and fresh herbs/spices to season there food.

If you like greek food, you will like persian food.

Like Persian food :-)
