I just bought a new Wok and it has a motor-like oil on it...?!

Question: I just bought a new Wok and it has a motor-like oil on it...?
I bought a Wok today, and I guess to keep it from rusting, they paint a black oil on it that smells like motor oil. Naturally, I don't want this taste in my food lol. Does anyone know how to clean this off? Or any good tips on overall wok care? Thanks!

It's not motor oil but a vegetable oil that has absorbed the odor of what I'm guessing is sort of a cheap metal.
I had a wok like this once and if yours is like mine was, make sure you remove your cooked food promptly or it will absorb that weird flavor.

You could season your wok. if the handles can go in the oven you can do it in the oven or you can do it on the stove top. you do this by slowly heating the wok and rubbing it oil, cause of your oil problem i would delete that step. heat the wok until it smokes. repeat if necessary.

wash thoroughly in very hot water, dry well and re-season with a tablespoon of olive or peanut oil ( pour in and wipe surface with a paper towel) do this every time you wash it to keep it from rusting.

They have this new stuff called Dish Washing Liquid and Hot Water.

Mix the two and apply with a wash rag.

Maintain it
