It is higher in fibre and has less gluten and sugar, slimming depends on the amount you eat, when in the UK I have bought and tried many, my chef mate in Liverpool makes a roll for his service from my 9 grain recipe, using spelt, oat, rye, corn meal, semolina and others with a touch of scottish heather honey, the fibre helps you digest the foods better and quicker which can aid in a diet reduction program, they make pastas and other foods with non wheat grains you might try.

Both are grasses which man has planted to produce edible grain since the bronze age. Spelt is the ancestor of was we know today as wheat, (and rye is a near relative) which man has been developing and breeding for millennia. They apparently contain more minerals and nutrients and cause fewer allergies than wheat, which makes them interesting for people with wheat allergies, gluten intolerance and coeliac disease.

Slimming? Not really They contain carbohydrates like any grain, although spelt and rye bread my be most nutritious and filling due to the high fibre and bran content in most full-grain variants. Be warned that rye can be very strong flavoured. Not everyone's taste.
